Land Acknowledgement

As an Immigrant and Settler on this land, I wish to acknowledge that the land where I live and work is the traditional territory of the Mississauga of the Credit First Nation, Anishnawbe, Haudenosaunee, Wendat, and Huron people. As a psychologist, I wish to acknowledge the historical and ongoing psychological harm caused by colonization, systemic racism and the residential school system in Canada. As a mental healthcare provider, I honour the enduring strength and resilience of Indigenous people and communities in Canada and the importance of creating space for truth-telling as part of the healing journey. I pledge to support this healing journey by working with leaders and communities to remove barriers and improve access to culturally appropriate mental health care.

As an Australian-trained psychologist, I acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land now called Australia. I pay respect to the Gadigal of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of the place now called Sydney, where I lived, worked and trained as a mental healthcare provider. As a Psychologist and as an Australian, I acknowledge the deep cultural and psychological harm caused to Indigenous Australians through colonization, systemic racism and the forced removal of children and separation of families, honouring the survivors of the Stolen Generation and all members of the oldest continuous living culture in the world.
